Art Education with Deborah Reilly

“To believe in Art is to believe in life.” ~ Henry Moore

“I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way…things I had no words for.” ~ Georgia O’Keeffe

“Sometimes being a friend means mastering the art of timing. There is a time for silence. A time to let go and allow people to hurl themselves into their own destiny. And a time to prepare to pick up the pieces when it’s all over.” ~ Gloria Naylor

I honestly don’t think I can say it any better than that. The key to a well balanced education is an education that is well balanced in the Arts. Not just lines, shapes and colors but the thought processes that go along with those line, shapes and colors as they hit the page and the courage to make it all happen.

It is my goal as a teacher to foster the creative in each student and to recognize each student as an individual. We will explore many mediums, historical styles and ideas all with a keen eye on making these assignments our own.

This is an exciting year for me at Kenter as this is the first graduating class of Fifth Graders that I will have had the pleasure of teaching Art since they entered kindergarten.

With that comes an opportunity for me to see them grow as creative beings because everybody has a creative bone in their body. Everybody. And it is my job to bring that about with a curriculum that covers the basics and not so basics with freedom to fly because…

“Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all” ~ Helen Keller

and also because…

“Reality is only a Rorschach ink-blot, you know”. ~ Alan Watts

and…

“Doing Art once a day helps keep the Doctor away.” ~ Ms. Deborah
